Street Fighter V: Champion Edition Patch ver.07.001[]
March 29, 2022
Street Fighter
other Capcom series
The March 2022 balance patch for Street Fighter V: Champion Edition also came with a number of new elements related to their Capcom Cup event, including a brand-new stage titled "Ring of Arcade". This stage is set in what appears to be an amusement theme park and features references to several Arcade games from Capcom's past in the form of attractions, large background boards and characters observing the battle from the background. The series included (with links to a more detailed page listing connections between them and Street Fighter) are:
- Mega Man (Links page)
- Ghosts 'n Goblins (Links page)
- Captain Commando (Links page)
- Red Earth (Links page)
- Darkstalkers (Links page)
- Final Fight (Links page)
- Cyberbots (Links page)
- Capcom Fighting (Links page)
- Star Gladiator (Links page)
- Forgotten Worlds (Links page)
- Power Stone (Links page)
- Slam Masters (Links page)
- Armored Warriors (Links page)
List of references[]
Here is a quick list of all cameo appearance present in the stage. Check the individual series' Links page to Street Fighter for more details on these connections:
- The large background board at the center of the stage features 4 characters:
- Ryu in his pose/art from Street Fighter II: The World Warriors main artwork.
- Mega Man in his pose/art from Mega Man 11.
- Arthur in his pose/art from Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins.
- Captain Commando in his pose/art from Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes.
- The two extra board cutouts behind the center one feature two more characters:
- Hauzer from Red Earth in his artwork pose.
- Blodia from Cyberbots striking the pose from the key artwork of Armored Warriors, its actual debut game.
- Characters standing in the background watching over the fight include, from left to right:
- Leo and Kenji from Red Earth.
- Morrigan and Demitri from Darkstalkers.
- Jin and Devilotte from Cyberbots.
- Ingrid from Capcom Fighting.
- June Lin Milliam from Star Gladiator.
- Note these are all crossover costumes previously available in-game for certain playable characters.
- Objects visible in the background and foreground, from left to right:
- A ferris wheel on the distance with the lion-like emblem used in the logo of Red Earth.
- A recreation of Morrigan's Castle from her appearance in the Vampire Savior stage "Deserted Chateau".
- The skyscraper from the intro of Street Fighter II: The World Warriors, with the two characters who were fighting during the intro standing in front of it.
- A graveyard area with twisted metal fences, demon-looking pillars and a stone arch entrance with purple swirling energy, based on Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins.
- Suzaku Castle in the distance from Street Fighter II.
- Edward Falcon's red airplane from Power Stone.
- A knife, metal pipe, cooked chicken and meat bone; all items from Final Fight.
- There's also a Type 3 reference to Ring of Destruction: Slam Masters II: performing certain special moves with the characters Zangief, Birdie and Alex produces a large onomatopoeia during victory, and these are transplanted from the identical onomatopoeias that appear in Slam Masters II when performing finishing moves.
Nature of the link[]
At face value, the links appear to be easily confirmed to be fictional Type 2 links due to two factors: the stage seemingly being set in an amusement theme park based on Capcom's Arcade history, and the characters cheering on the background all being based on the game's many crossover costumes, which are confirmed to be cosplay costumes of the characters. Although this hasn't been confirmed officially, it is the general assumption among fans.
There are, however, a few references that seem to be the actual characters instead of fictional costumes, making these links arguably in-game Type 1 links instead:
- The appearance of Bred and his scrapped car, based on the bonus round from Final Fight. In this instance, since Bred was not a crossover costume like the others and Final Fight is already assimilated into Street Fighter canon and several characters have become playable in the fighting series, this character can easily be accepted as the real Bred.
- Two Servbots from Mega Man Legends, one observing the fight and the other mopping the floor. As these move and animate like the real Servbots and don't appear to be costumes or something else, this can be argued to raise the Mega Man link to be Type 1.
- Two Hutzil robots from Darkstalkers flying from left to right at the top of the screen. As before, these appear to be the actual robots from Darkstalkers flying around in their flight mode, once again being possible to argue the link to be a Type 1.
- The two Unknown Soldiers floating far away in the distance. Even though the 1P Unknown Soldier is a crossover costume, the fact he's seen flying around without any assistance (imitating how the characters move in Forgotten Worlds) would seem to indicate these two aren't merely costumed people, but the real soldiers somehow. The 2P Unknown Soldier is fully original as well, since there's not even a color reference to him in the original crossover costume.
Due to this, these four series can be argued to include actual elements from them in the Street Fighter series. Although this can also be argued to mean the other references are also actual elements and not recreations or costumed people, this wiki will still lists all other links as fictional until Capcom confirms the true nature of these references.
