This page explains in detail the interactions between the Kirby series and the Super Smash Bros. series.
For a list of Kirby transformations in each game, see here.
Super Smash Bros.[]
January 21, 1999
Super Smash Bros. features from the Kirby series:
Kirby[]
In game bio:
The 8-inch high Kirby hails from a distant, peaceful star. Like his simplistic appearance, he is an easily-understood character. True to his instincts, Kirby eats when he gets hungry and sleeps as soon as he grows tired. Nevertheless, Kirby remains a formidable opponent. In addition to his distinct flying and swallowing skills, he also has the ability to copy enemy attacks for ever-changing action.
Works:
- Kirby's Dream Land (GB)
- Kirby's Pinball Land (GB)
- Kirby Super Star (SNES)
Kirby is one of the eight starting characters in Super Smash Bros. with his appearance from Kirby Super Star.
He enters the stage by crash landing a Warp Star, similar to how he lands on a section of a level he can't turn away from.
Most of his basic moveset consists of generic attacks, however his standard attack is based specifically on Fighter Kirby's Vulcan Jab move; also his Forward Throw seems to be based on Ninja Kirby's Air Drop from Kirby Super Star, while his Back Throw is similar to the Backdrop ability from Kirby's Adventure.
Unlike most characters who only have one midair jump, Kirby can perform five, which is based on his ability to float from the original games.
Special moves:
- Netural - Vacuum: Kirby's trademark attack, he inhales an opponent into himself and can either spit them straight out as a star, or swallow them (unless it's another Kirby) to gain a Copy Ability; after swallowing the opponent, Kirby changes in appearance and has his Neutral attack replaced by the opponent's, and this lasts until he performs a taunt. See here for a list of Kirby transformations.
- Up - Final Cutter: Kirby draws a sliver blade, jumps into the air, and falls quickly, releasing a blue "wave" projectile forward if he lands on a solid surface. The move is based on one of the cutter ability's moves first appearing in Kirby Super Star.
- Down - Stone: Kirby turns into a stone figure which can cause damage when falling on others. The move is based on the stone ability first appearing in Kirby's Adventure, with the stone itself having that similar model. Similar to the original games, Kirby is almost invincible while in stone form, but he can only stay in that form for a limited time.
Palette swap:
- Pink Kirby: 1P: Kirby's classic colors.
- Yellow Kirby: 2P (aka: Keeby: Kirby Bowl) - Based on the second player, Keeby. The color also resembles Beam Kirby.
- Blue Kirby: 4P & Blue Team (Ice Ability: Hoshi no Kirby Super Deluxe SFC): based on Ice Kirby from Kirby Super Star.
- Red Kirby: 3P & Red Team (Fire Ability: Hoshi no Kirby Super Deluxe SFC): based on Fire Kirby from Kirby Super Star.
- Green Kirby: Green Team (aka: Kusa Mochi Kirby): officially based on the Kusa mochi sweet, it also resembles the color of the original Gameboy screen or Plasma Kirby.
One of his victory poses is based on his victory dance from Kirby's Adventure.
Dream Land[]
Kirby and Ness's home stage, is based on the Whispy Woods boss fight in Kirby Super Star. Even Whispy Woods is an obstacle who blows a big gust of wind at anyone in front of him. Also, Dream Land can be seen in the background along with King Dedede and Bronto Burt.
Items[]
Items based on the Kirby series and their respective artwork from the game are:
Maxim Tomato[]
A recurring item from the Kirby series, where it's used to restore the player's health completely, when picked it restores 100% from the character's damage percentage, but now restores 50% from the character's damage counter in newer smash games.
Star Rod[]
The item from the final battle of Kirby's Adventure the Kirby series, when picked up it can be used as a battering ram and shoot stars off of it, similar to the original game.
Music tracks[]
- 10 - Dream Land: A fast-paced remix of the "Gourmet Race" Theme from Kirby Super Star, heard on Dream Land.
- 20 - Kirby Victory Theme: The victory fanfare of Kirby is an orchestration of the shortened "Stage Complete" theme heard in general Kirby games.
Super Smash Bros. Melee[]
November 21, 2001
Super Smash Bros. Melee features from the Kirby Series.
Kirby[]
Kirby returns from the previous game and is once again a starting character. His look has been upgraded for the new console, but he doesn't resemble his look in any specific game.
His palette swaps are the same as the previous game, while also including a white skin of him resembling his appearance in Kirby’s Dream Land for the Gameboy.
His moveset is the same with only minor changes, such as a fiery Dash attack based on his attack as either Burning Kirby or Fire Kirby. In addition, the Stone Transformation has new models, such as the original stone being colored pink and a 100 ton weight model, which resembles the 8 ton weight from Kirby Super Star.
His Vacuum attack has been renamed Swallow; see here for a list of Kirby transformations in this game.
Like every other character, he now also has a Side Special Move: Hammer. On the ground he is able to swing a hammer at the direction he faces, while on air, he is able to a vertical spinning attack. This is based on Hammer Kirby, but the hammer itself is almost identical to King Dedede’s.
Stages[]
The stage from the previous game can be unlocked, plus there are two new starting stages.
Green Greens[]
Like Dream Land, this is based on Green Greens level in Kirby. Unlike the previous stage, it is three floating islands connected by star and bomb blocks that fall in between. If the bomb block gets destroyed, the other blocks get destroyed. Apples can fall off from Whispy Woods, who can also blow a gust of wind from left or right (instead of only the one direction from the previous stage).
Fountain of Dreams[]
The stage has a similar appearance to Battlefield, except that the side floating platforms aren’t always even in height and the side of the bottom platform acts as a wall for wall-jumping. This seems to be based on the final level of Kirby’s Adventure under the same name where Kirby fights Nightmare.
Past Stages: Dream Land[]
The Kirby stage from the previous game returns unchanged and is unlocked after completing the target test with every character.
Items[]
The Maxim Tomato and Star Rod return from the original game, plus two new items.
Maxim Tomato[]
Its use is the same, but instead of restoring 100 damage points, it only restores 50. Unlike its bright red color in the Kirby games and Super Smash Bros. 64, the Maxim Tomato in Melee has a dark red color to it, giving it an original design.
Parasol[]
Based on the Parasol used by Waddle Dees (or Doos) and that Kirby gets after eating one and transforming into Parasol Kirby. While it can be used as a battering item, it can be used as a parachute to control the falling and avoid being helpless in battle. When Peach uses her Up-special while carrying a Parasol, she is seen using the item instead of her white umbrella. This version of the Parasol has a spike on top instead of a star, and it is only held open when a character floats in midair, or when it is stationary.
Warp Star[]
Based on the Warp Star Kirby can use to fly to different areas in Dream Land, which was also used in Kirby’s on-screen appearance in the original game. When a person grabs onto the item, they take flight and crash down from above. The user can move left or right to a specific location, but will always land from the highest platform of any point from left to right.
Trophies[]
There are 22 Kirby trophies in the game. Kirby’s 3 character trophies, 4 item trophies, 2 stage elements trophies, and 8 trophies about Kirby elements not in the game. We also list 5 extra trophies based on their transformations in Melee.
*Meta Knight actually made his first appearance in Kirby’s Adventure, plus his name here is spelled with a hyphen, instead of spaced. This mistake is a reference to his warriors led by him. The Japanese version fixes these issues. However, all versions of the game made his physical body silver instead of dark blue.
Music tracks[]
The game features five tracks from the Kirby series, including one returning from the previous game and four new ones (listed in bold):
- Fountain of Dreams: An orchestrated, atmospheric version of "Gourmet Race" from Kirby Super Star.
- Green Greens: An orchestration of Level 1: Green Greens stage music from Kirby's Dream Land, heard in Green Greens.
- Dream Land N64: The music for the Dream Land stage in Super Smash Bros., which is also a re-recording of the main "Gourmet Race" theme, is brought back unaltered along with the stage itself as Past Stages: Dream Land.
- Kirby's Victory: An updated version of Kirby's Victory theme from the previous game, in turn based on the The "Stage Complete" theme heard in Kirby games.
- All-Star Intro: Remix of quiet music heard in Kirby Super Star for SNES, heard at the All-Star Teleporter. It's listed among the original music for the game.
Other references[]
Food is a type of item that can be picked up to restore health.
While it's officially considered an original "Super Smash Bros." item, and food is a common health recovery item in video games, it may also be inspired by the various type of food that Kirby can pick up in his own games to restore health.
Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land[]
October 25, 2002
In this remake of Kirby's Adventure, the Fountain of Dreams where the battle against King Dedede takes place has been redesigned to look more similar to its rendition from the Super Smash Bros. Melee stage, and the background music is also changed to a remix of the stage music from said game.
Kirby Air Ride[]
July 11, 2003
This racing game uses on-screen graphics very similar to those from Super Smash Bros. Melee for the menus as well as the gameplay HUD. The sound effect used when selecting something in the menu is also a a deeper version of Melee's sound effect for the same thing.
The game includes slightly altered versions of the Green Greens music and Fountain of Dreams music from Melee:
Kirby & the Amazing Mirror[]
April 15, 2004
Master Hand, the final boss from Super Smash Bros. games appears as a Mini-Boss in the game, acting similar to how it does in the original games.
If Kirby inhales Master Hand after defeating it, he gets the exclusive Smash ability, which provides him with an array of moves based on his moves from Super Smash Bros. Melee. Specifically, his basic attack on the ground is Vulcan Jab, based on Kirby's standard attack, his basic attack in the air is Twinkle Star, based on Kirby's standard aerial attack, while his side, up and down moves correspond to the respective special move from Smash, being Hammer (Hammer Spin while in midair), Final Cutter, and Stone respectively.
Master Hand returns alongside Crazy Hand as the final boss of Candy Constellation. They attack Kirby together, similar to how they behave in Melee. Kirby needs to defeat them both to win the fight, and Master Hand can't be inhaled on this occasion.
Kirby: Canvas Course[]

WARNING: it has not been verified that this link actually took place.
Help us verifiyng this information by uploading an image or video for this section.
One of the possible shapes the player has to draw in the Paint Panic minigame is sometimes the Super Smash Bros. logo.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl[]
January 31, 2008
Super Smash Bros. Brawl features from the Kirby series:
- 3 playable characters
- 2 stages
- 5 items
- 1 Assist Trophy helper (Knuckle Joe)
- 42 trophies
- 34 stickers
- 1 playable Masterpiece (Kirby’s Adventure)
- 16 music tracks
Playable characters[]
Kirby returns as a starting character. Two new Kirby fighters also arrive to Brawl.
Kirby[]
Kirby's moves are largely unchanged from the previous game, but becomes stronger and faster. Also his Dash attack is once again replaced by a different one, now based on the Break Spin of Yo-yo Kirby.
His Vacuum/Swallow move has been renamed Inhale and Kirby can now swallow items: swallowing health recovering items will have the same effect as picking them up, while inhaling explosives will deal damage to Kirby; see here for a list of the new or altered Kirby transformations in this game.
His palette swaps are the same of the previous game.
His new taunts are based on the Kirby dance (Up taunt) and his animation when picked in the original Super Smash Bros. (down taunt).
Like every character, Kirby obtains a new Final Smash move:
- Cook Kirby: Based on his Cook ability from Kirby Super Star. Kirby puts anything and anyone within a limited radius inside his cooking pot. After a short while, Kirby releases the opponents he traps with additional damage, as well as a few items.
Meta Knight[]
Meta Knight is a new starting character. While he does attack with his feet, his most prominent attacks involve using his sword Galaxia.
Similar to Kirby he's able to perform five midair jumps by flapping his wings.
He enters the arena by spinning in his cape. This animation, which is also similar from his up taunt, may reflect the times he leaves after defeat from battle. His side taunt has him say, “Fight me!” while pointing his sword and his down has him open his wings and say “Come.” This taunt is a reference to the pose he makes before fighting Kirby. Finally, his down taunt has him spread his wings and facing the camera menacingly. This could be a reference to the pose he makes at the last part of "Revenge of Meta Knight" when Kirby tries to escape the Halberd in the game Kirby Super Star.
Special attacks:
- Neutral - Mach Tornado: Meta Knight whirls at high speed, causing a slight pull on nearby opponents, slashes them multiple times, and traps them in a barrage of blade swipes. This move can also change in direction and its duration can be increased by mashing the attack button. While Meta Knight was able to use this move in Kirby Super Star, it controls like Tornado Kirby.
- Side - Drill Rush: Meta Knight whirls forward in a drill like motion. This move can also be angled. Drill Rush is the Dash-B ability Kirby used in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror when obtaining Galaxia. The rolling may also resemble the Quick Spin he does in Kirby’s Air Ride.
- Up - Shuttle Loop: Meta Knight jumps with his sword pointed upwards, performs a loop, and then glades with his blade pointed forward. While this move may be original to Super Smash Bros., it most likely references one of Wing Kirby’s abilities in Kirby Super Star which requires him to toss an enemy in the air.
- Down - Dimensional Cape: Meta Knight wraps himself in his cloak, disappears for a while, and reappears with a slash attack. Meta Knight can change his position with this attack. Like his entrance in the arena, this may also reference the fact he could teleport.
- Final Smash - Galaxia Darkness: Meta Knight swings his cape in front of him. Anyone that is engulfed in his cape gets slashed after the stage completely darkens, resulting in a heavy knock-back. While it does utilize the tools Meta Knight used in previous games, this move originates in Super Smash Bros.
While most of the palette consist of alternate costumes in Kirby Air Ride, his blue palette is based on his original appearance in Kirby’s Adventure, as opposed to his default that’s based on most recent games.
King Dedede[]
King Dedede is a new starting character. Despite his heavyweight nature, he has good recovery that can protect him from almost any distance. He mostly fights with his hammer, though he does utilize attacks with his body.
He enters the arena by jumping off a palanquin carried by four Waddle Dee. There is also a Waddle Dee shown in his victory pose. This most likely references his rule over them. His different taunts reflect his personality of being an ally and enemy in Kirby games.
Special attacks:
- Neutral - Inhale: Nearly every Kirby game with King Dedede in it features him being able to inhale his enemies. Unlike Kirby, he can only spit out his opponents without copying his/her ability when releasing.
- Side - Waddle Dee Toss: King Dedede can throw a Waddle Dee, a Waddle Doo, a Gordo, or possibly an item. The Waddle Dee can reflect projectiles, the Waddle Doo can perform their Beam attack and Gordo can travel far horizontally, dealing high damage. Even though this move is original to Super Smash Bros., these enemies appeared in Kirby games. The throwing may be a reference to Kirby: Squeak Squad when Dedede throws Kirby.
- Up - Super Dedede Jump: Dedede jumps extremely high, then suddenly crashes down. This is a prominent attack King Dedede has used as a boss, which result in one star on each side of him.
- Down - Jet Hammer: King Dedede charges his hammer and swings it with a rocket force. It can be charged continuously, but it will start do deal damage to Dedede after a while. Despite the jet engine in the hammer originating from the game, Hammer Kirby has used a similar move when charging his hammer.
- Final Smash - Waddle Dee Army: King Dedede summons hoards of Waddle Dee, Waddle Doo, and Gordos all across the battlefield.
- Red: (default)
- Pink: Resembles one of his alternate colors in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards’ Multiplayer mode.
- Green: Resembles one of his alternate colors in Kirby Air Ride.
- Purple: Resembles one of his alternate colors in Kirby Air Ride.
- Blue: The obi’s color scheme looks similar to the menu background in Kirby 64.
- Brown: Resembles his appearance in Kirby's Dream Land.
Stages[]
The Green Greens stage from Melee returns as an unlockable stage after completing 20 Vs. matches as Kirby, while there's a new starting stage:
Halberd[]
Based on the battleship in the Kirby Super Star subgame “Revenge of Meta Knight”. The players start fighting in a hangar with the ship docked. After a while, the ship takes off, as well as the platform the fighters fight on and the dight continues while the platform flies around with the ship in the background. After one minute, the platform lands on the head of the ship, in front of the Combo Cannon, which can extend its arm to swipe the players, or shoot cannonballs or laser beams. Eventually the platform leaves the Halberd, but after a while it returns on the previous spot unless the match ends before it happens.
Items[]
The only Kirby item from Melee that doesn't return in Brawl is the Parasol, however there are two new items for a total of 5 items.
Superspicy Curry[]
Once eaten, the player changes movement pattern while also spewing out fireballs from where its facing, even without performing an attack. This can constantly stun players while in the fire’s rage. This item was used to temporary spew out fireballs in Kirby’s Dream Land, before Fire Kirby existed.
Dragoon[]
The Dragoon is based on one of the two legendary vehicles from Kirby Air Ride that is known for its flight abilities. Like in the original game, this item can only be used when one player has all three parts: the nosecone, body, and tail. Once activated, the player's character moves off screen and the player takes control of a crosshair to aim at the opponent and hit him/her, resulting almost always in a KO.
Knuckle Joe[]
The recurring enemy from the Kirby series is an Assist Trophy in Brawl and behaves like he does in the games. Knuckle Joe moves around on stage, rapidly hitting opponents with Vulcan Jab. He then finishes with either a strong “Smash Punch”, or an electrically charged “Rising Break” uppercut.
Trophies[]
There are 42 Kirby trophies in the game. 6 playable character trophies (2 for each of the 3 characters), 1 Assist Trophy, 6 item trophies (5 for the regular items, one for the Apple item, exclusive to the Green Greens stage), 27 series related trophies, and 2 stage element trophies.
Stickers[]
The game features 34 stickers based on artworks from Kirby games.
Kirby's Adventure masterpiece[]
Super Smash Bros. Brawl features "Masterpieces", playable trial versions of classic titles where the characters from the game originally appeared. One of these is Kirby's Adventure.
The game starts at Vegetable Valley and it stops after 2 minutes.
Music tracks[]
The game features 12 music tracks in the Kirby category, all new to the series and all used in the Halberd stage; 7 of them are available from the start, while 5 are unlockable. The Super Smash Bros. category also features two Kirby music tracks returning from the previous game and used on the Dream Land stage, while among the Sound Effects are the two new Victory Fanfare for Kirby characters, for a total of 16 Kirby tracks.

Other references[]
One of Jigglypuff's outfit has it wearing a green night-cap, which combined with Jigglypuff's round, pink appearance makes it look similar to Sleep Kirby.
R.O.B.’s entrance has him assembled from parts, with the exact parts likely referencing what happens in World 3-6 of Kirby's Dreamland 3.
Also, beside appearing as a stage, the Halberd is a location in Adventure Mode: Subspace Emissary, allowing different sections of it to be explored.
Kirby's Dream Collection[]
July 19, 2012
The Smash ability returns from Kirby & The Amazing Mirror in the New Challenge Stages mode of Kirby's Dream Collection. It retains all the attacks from the previous game, but also adds the Smash Kick as its dash attack, based on Kirby's forward Smash.
The logo used for this copy ability is the Super Smash Bros. logo, which also appears in the background of the respective chamber in a repeated pattern.
Kirby: Triple Deluxe[]
January 11, 2014
The Kirby Fighters mode in this game seems to be inspired by the Super Smash Bros. series, consisting in 2 to 4 Kirbys fighting each other with a selected Copy Ability. In this mode Kirby is also able to shield, roll, sidestep, and air dodge just like in Super Smash Bros. games.
An arrangement of the Fountain of Dreams theme from Super Smash Bros. Melee, previously featured in Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land and Kirby Air Ride, also returns in this game. It will be used again in the stand-alone version of Kirby Fighters Deluxe.
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and for Wii U[]
September 13, 2014 (3DS); November 21, 2014 (Wii U)

- Wii U: 42 trophies
- 3 playable Masterpieces (Wii U exclusive mode)
- 31 music tracks
Playable characters[]
All three selectable characters from Brawl return as starting characters.
Kirby[]
Kirby returns with only minor changes to his look and basic moves, including now sporting a wider range of facial expressions based on more recent Kirby games.
He retains all the alternate outfits from the previous game, but now also has two new ones: an Orange one resembling Suplex Kirby or Kirby's appearance after using Orange Spray Paint in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror and Kirby: Squeak Squad; a Black/Purple one with bright yellow eyes, likely based on Meta Knight unmasked.
In the Boxing Ring stage, he is referred to as “The Pink Puffball”, referencing his color and shape of body. His Japanese name, “ピンクの悪魔”, is a reference to the in-game description for The Arena in Kirby Super Star.
His special moves received some minor changes, most notably his Hammer move being renamed Hammer Flip in North America, and now allowing Kirby to charge it similarily to King Dedede's Jet Hammer. He also received a new Final Smash move replacing Cook Kirby, and each of his moves received two alternate custom variations. All of Kirby's new moves are:
- Neutral: (See here for a list of the new or altered Kirby transformations in this game.)
- Ice Breath: instead of inhaling, Kirby breaths cold air that freezes nearby opponents. This is based on Ice Kirby's attack.
- Jumping Inhale: Kirby leaps forward and if he hits an opponent he'll inhale them, but the move doesn't have any vacuum effect.
- Side:
- Hammer Bash: a variation of the Hammer move that can't be charged, working similarily to how it did in Brawl.
- Giant Hammer: Kirby attacks with a larger hammer, giving the move a larger reach and making it stronger, but also making it slower. This may be based on Kirby: Squeak Squad, where Kirby could enlarge his hammer as one of the Hammer ability's moves.
- Up:
- Wave Cutter: a variation of the Final Cutter move where the blade doesn't deal damage, but upon landing Kirby creates a wave of rocks that's more powerful than the regular move's wave.
- Upper Cutter: Kirby deals a powerful strike while raising up, but Kirby then doesn't strike back down.
- Down:
- Grounding Stone: a slower version of the Stone move, when used in the air it buries hit opponents in the ground.
- Meteor Stone: a variation on the Stone move that has meteor smash effect on hit opponents, but it takes more time for Kirby to turn back to normal after using it.
- Final Smash - Ultra Sword: based on Kirby's Super Ability of the same name from Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Kirby dons a green cap and swings a giant sword many times at any opponent in front of him.
Meta Knight[]
Meta Knight returns with a slightly updated look, includig some details from his appearance from Kirby: Squeak Squad and Kirby Super Star Ultra.
He retains all the alternate costumes from the previous game, but also has two new ones: a Purple one resembling Galacta Knight from Kirby Super Star Ultra, and a Grey one resembling Dark Meta Knight from Kirby & The Amazing Mirror.
His moves received various minor changes most notably he now lacks the ability to glide, so his Shuttle Loop move now performs a second full hit after the loop, rather than gliding down.
In the Boxing Ring stage, he is referred to as “The Masked Swordsman”, referencing that he fights with a sword, and that he hides his true face inside a mask.
Custom moves:
- Neutral:
- Entangling Tornado: a variation on the Mach Tornado move that pulls enemies in and deals a more powerful single hit that sends the opponents flying rather than multiple hits, and it has limited horizontal control.
- Dreadful Tornado: a more powerful variation of the move that can't be extended by mashing the button, limiting its overall damage potential.
- Side:
- High-Speed Drill: a variation on the Drill Rush move with higher speed and distance, but has decreased knockback and its direction can't be changed. In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, this variation need to be unlocked by winning 5 Smash battles as Meta Knight.
- Shieldbreaker Drill: a less powerful version of the move with increased shield damage.
- Up:
- Blade Coaster: a variation of the Shuttle Loop move that travels at a more horizontal angle, covering more distance, but has increased startup lag.
- Lazy Shuttle Loop': a version of the move that performs a slower loop, then strikes with a single attack.
- Down:
- Shield Piercer: an unblockable, but slower and weaker version of the Dimensional Cape.
- Stealth Smasher: a version of the move that allows Meta Knight to remain hidden a longer time, but leaves him more vulnerable.
King Dedede[]
King Dedede returns from the previous game with some minor changes.
He retains all the alternate outfits from the previous game, with some minor changes, most notably his Green outfit now having drawings of Waddle Dees on the obi. Additionally, the returning Blue costume now has some light blue parts (and is considered his Cyan outfit), while the Brown outfit is more greyish (and is considered his Grey outfit).
King Dedede also gets two new costumes: a Blue one resembling one of his alternate colors from Multiplayer mode in Kirby 64, and a Black one resembling one of his alternate costumes from Kirby Air Ride.
In the Boxing Ring stage, he is referred to as “The King of Dreamland”, referencing his position as a king and the main setting of the series. The PAL French character title, “Le roi marteau”, is a pun with "marteau" in French which means "crazy" and "hammer"
King Dedede receives a new Side Special move and a new Final Smash, as well as each of his Special moves receiving two custom variations. All his new moves are:
- Neutral:
- Dedede Storm: Rather than inhaling the opponent, Dedede produces a cyclone that hits repeatedly and then launches opponents upwards.
- Taste Test: Dedede inhales opponents quickly and then spits them out immediately, dealing more damage than the regular move.
- Side - Gordo Throw: replacing Waddle Dee toss, King Dedede always pulls out a Gordo and then tosses it with his hammer, sending it bouncing in front of him with the possibility for the player to adjust the angle of the throw. It can also get stuck on walls or be hit back at him by opponents. If the move is performed when a Gordo is already out, then the move consists in a single hammer swing. The move's custom variations are:
- Topspin Gordo: The Gordo moves a small distancee at first, but travels very fast after the first bounce.
- Bouncing Gordo: The Gordo bounces more and has an electric effect, but deals less damage.
- Up:
- Rising Dedede: King Dedede performs a high jump that only deals damage on the way up, but leaves him falling helplessly.
- Quick Dedede Jump: a weaker, but much faster variation of the Super Dedede Jump that doesn't go as high.
- Down:
- Armored Jet Hammer: a weaker version of the Jet Hammer move that grants Dedede with super armor while charging, but also gives more damage to him during the charge.
- Dash Jet Hammer: a weaker version of the move that sends Dedede back while charging and then dashing forward when striking the hit.
- Final Smash - Dedede Burst: King Dedede's new Final Smash replacing Waddle Dee Army, he inhales the opponents then slams them with three flaming hammer spins and finishes by throwing a bomb at them. While this move is original to Smash, the bomb's design seems to be based on the Bomber enemy from the Kirby series.
Smash Run enemies[]
This 3DS-exclusive mode features many enemies that must be fought by players. Nine of these originate from the Mario series, and are:
Bonkers[]
The recurring mini-boss, first appearing in Kirby's Adventure. He's a rare enemy in Smash Run and has higher health than most enemies, effectively serving as a mini-boss in the mode. He attacks with his hammer, much like he does in the original games.
Bronto Burt[]
The common flying enemy from the Kirby series, it appears as a common enemy in Smash Run as well, and attack by ramming into the player while spinning.
Gordo[]
The recurring spiked enemy from the Kirby series, like in its original appearances it's invincible and either remains stationary or moves in a set path. It can also damage other enemies.
Parasol Waddle Dee[]
The parasol-weilding variation of the Waddle Dee, it behaves much like it does in the original games: it comes gliding down with its parasol and if attacked it will lose the parasol turning into a regular Waddle Dee. The open parasol can function as a trampoline.
Plasma Wisp[]
The enemy from Kirby Super Star and its remake, Kirby Super Star Ultra. Like in the original games it floats around and attacks by shooting plasma beams at the player. It can charge the shot, dealing more damage the more it's charged. There are also shadowy versions of the Plasma Wisp when fighting against Master Fortress.
Shotzo[]
The recurring cannon enemy first appearing in Kirby's Dream Land, like in the original game it just stands in plae and shoots cannonballs at the player, and it's invincible.
Tac[]
An enemy from Kirby Super Star and its remake Kirby Super Star Ultra, where he would steal Kirby's copy ability, in Smash Run he steals power-ups from the player, and he must be defeated to get them back.
Waddle Dee[]
The basic enemy from the Kirby series, it just walks around and attacks by bumping into the player.
Waddle Doo[]
One of the more common enemies in the Kirby series, like in its original appearance it attacks with an energy whip.
Stages[]
The only Kirby stage initially available, albeit unlockable, in the 3DS version of the game is the new Dream Land stage, while the Wii U version features two stages, both available from the start: Halberd, returning unchanged from Brawl, and The Great Cave Offensive, new to the series.
Additionally, the Dream Land stage from the original Super Smash Bros. was released as DLC for both versions on June 14, 2015, called Dream Land (64) to distinguish it from the 3DS stage.
Dream Land[]
Taking place in a Game Boy screen, the stage is based on various areas from the original Game Boy game Kirby's Dream Land. Specifically, after a Game Boy startup screen with the "Nintendo" logo, the match initially takes place in Green Greens, then Float Islands, Bubbly Clouds, Castle Lololo and finally Mt. Dedede. Each zone includes two different areas from the game.
As a hidden easter egg, if the L button is pressed while selecting this stage, it will sport a black and white look instead of the green hue of the Game Boy. This works on both the regular version of the stage as well as its Omega version.
The Great Cave Offensive[]
Based on the sub-game from Kirby Super Star, it features areas based on each of the four zones from that game, therefore being one of the largest stages in the game. Specifically the top part of the stage is based on Sub-Tree, the lower middle part is based on Old Tower, the right part is based on Crystal, and the left part is based on Garden. The stage features hazards such as lava and spikes. Minecraft also occasionally appear, letting players ride them to inflict damage on opponents. If items are turned on, treasure chests containing items appear around the stage, referencing the treasures from the original game.
In Omega form the stage consists in one single platform mixing elements from the Sub-Tree section of the stage and the Crystal section of the stage.
Items[]
All of the items from Brawl return mostly unchanged. The only exception is Superspicy Curry, which shoots out a stream of fire instead of fire balls. This reference might be better known from "A Spice Odyssey" ("The Hot Shot Chef" in Japan) in the Kirby Right Back at Ya! anime, where Kirby shot out a stream of fire after eating what was dubbed as “Toxic Atomic Curry” to defeat Monsieur Goan.
Assist Trophies[]
Knuckle Joe returns as an assist trophy, acting the same way as he did in Brawl except that his attacks are weaker and he now performs his attack pattern twice. He now can also be attacked by opponents and eventually knocked out.
There also is a new Assist Trophy:
Nightmare[]
The final boss of of Kirby's Adventure and its remake Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, once summoned he briefly appears in orb form and then turns into his Wizard form, based specifically on his appearance from the remake. He'll then make the screen go entirely black, forcing players to fight in complete darkness, save for the special effects of some moves.
Meta Knight Mask[]
One of the Mii headgear in the game is the Meta Knight Mask. Like most headgear in the game it's unlocked by collecting it as a randomly dropped item during matches or as a random reward in various modes.
Smash Tour Tac[]
In this board-game like mode exclusive to Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Tacs occasionally appear as enemies on the board. They carry stat boosts with them and will grant them to the first player that touches them.
Trophies[]
The list of trophies differs between the two versions of the game, with the 3DS version including 27 Kirby trophies and the Wii U version including 42 trophies. 11 trophies are the same in both versions, 16 trophies are exclusive for the 3DS version and 31 trophies are exclusive for the Wii U version, so there are 58 Kirby trophies in total across both versions.
Note: both versions of the game have an Alternate character trophy for each of the three fighters, therefore these are sometimes listed as appearing in both games, however since they feature completely different models, we list them as separate.
Masterpieces[]
Masterpieces return only in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U due to the limitations of the 3DS console. This time three Kirby games are included, two starting ones and an unlockable one returning from Brawl. The duration of each Kirby masterpiece is 3 minutes. They are:
Kirby's Dream Land (Game Boy): Starts at the title screen.
Kirby Super Star (SNES): Starts in The Great Cave Offensive.
Kirby's Adventure (NES): unlocked after clearing Solo Classic as Kirby at intensity 5.5 or higher, this time it starts at the title screen and has two saved files, one at the beginning of the game and the other at final boss of the game.
Music tracks[]
The 3DS version of the game features 9 tracks from the Kirby series (7 in the base game and 2 downloadable ones), while the Wii U version features 26 Kirby tracks (20 in the base game and 6 downloadable ones). Only 4 songs are the same between the two versions, so in total there are 31 music track from the Kirby series across both versions, including 17 tracks that are new to the Super Smash Bros. series (listed in bold).
The Kirby/King Dedede victory fanfare and Meta Knight victory fanfare also return in the game, but they are unavailable in the Sound Test and are therefore not listed here.
3DS[]
The 3DS version of the game features only 1 base track, 6 tracks that are unlocked alongside the Dream Land stage, and 2 tracks that are downloaded alongside the Dream Land (64) stage. The Dream Land tracks however are treated as only two tracks in game, with either the Green Greens Ver. 2 track being selected, or a loop of the other 5 songs being selected.
Base track:
- The Legendary Air Ride Machine: An orchestrated version of the music that played in Kirby Air Ride when a player fully assembled the Dragoon or Hydra. Returning from Brawl, it plays in Smash Run.
Unlockable tracks:

- Forest/Nature Area: theme of the forest levels from Kirby & The Amazing Mirror, taken directly from the game. Returning from Brawl, it's used on The Great Cave Offensive.
- Boss Theme Medley: A medley of various boss battle themes from the Kirby series. Returning from Brawl, it's used on Halberd.

- The World to Win: theme from the final boss battle from Kirby: Triple Deluxe, taken directly from the game.
Other reference[]
The action of the Drill item seems to be similar to the mixing of the Needle and Stone ability from Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards.
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse[]
January 22, 2015
This game features compatibility with the three Kirby character amiibo from the Super Smash Bros. series, specifically:
- Kirby: turns Kirby into a Warp Star-riding version of himself; allows him to use the Star Dash ability at any time.
- King Dedede: gives Kirby a King Dedede hat; gives him two extra hit points.
- Meta Knight: gives Kirby a Meta Knight mask; gives him greater speed during his Tap Dash attack.
Other games in the series would include compatibility with these three amiibo, but since Kirby, King Dedede and Meta Knight figures are released in the Kirby series on April 28th 2016, compatibility with the Super Smash Bros. figures in any game released after that date is considered incidental, unless the game features exclusive features for them.
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse: Saved by the Rainbow[]
Early 2015
The third comic strip published on the site Play Nintendo to promote the game Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Elline saves Kirby from a fall by drawing her magic rainbow rope, to which a voice offscreen replies "You cannot use Elline in Smash Bros." revealing that Kirby has just been thrown off stage in a Super Smash Bros. match against Mario and Yoshi.
Kirby: Planet Robobot[]
April 28, 2016
The Smash copy ability returns from Kirby & The Amazing Mirror and Kirby's Dream Collection, but it's now renamed Smash Bros. and extended to also include the Shield move, and the Air Drop move, based on Kirby's up throw from Super Smash Bros. It's a rare ability that only appears as a Copy Essence or after scanning a Super Smash Bros. Kirby amiibo.
Additionally, Meta Knight has new moves based on his Shuttle Loop special and Galaxia Darkness Final Smash from the Super Smash Bros. series.
The game also features compatibility with most amiibo from the Super Smash Bros. series released at the time (the only exceptions being Sonic, Mega Man, Pac-Man, and Ryu). Scanning a compatible amiibo gives Kirby a specific power based on the character, specifically:
- Mario: Fire - based on Mario's fire powers.
- Peach: Parasol - based on Peach's floating abilities, and her use of a parasol as a weapon.
- Yoshi: Whip - based on Yoshi's tongue acting similar to a whip.
- Donkey Kong: Fighter - based on Donkey Kong fighting with his base hands.
- Link: Sword - based on Link being a swordfighter.
- Fox: Jet - based on Fox being a space pilot.
- Samus: Bomb - based on Samus dropping bombs as one of her iconic attacks.
- Wii Fit Trainer: Doctor
- Villager: Leaf - based on the forest themes of the Animal Crossing series. This is the same effect obtained by scanning any Animal Crossing amiibo, but the Villager figure is actually identified by name.
- Pikachu: Spark - based on Pikachu's electricity powers.
- Kirby: Smash Bros. - basically turning Kirby into his Super Smash Bros. incarnation. The Kirby amiibo from his own series is also compatible, but it has a different effect (providing the UFO ability instead).
- Marth: Sword - based on Marth being a swordfighter.
- Zelda: Mirror - based on Zelda's neutral special move, Nayru's Love, which reflects projectiles.
- Diddy Kong: Bomb - likely based on Diddy Kong's Peanut Popgun and Rocketbarrel attack having explosive properties.
- Luigi: Fire - based on Luigi's fire powers.
- Little Mac: Fighter - based on Little Mac being a boxer.
- Pit: Archer - based on Pit fighting with a bow.
- Captain Falcon: Wheel - based on Captain Falcon being a race pilot.
- Rosalina: Ice
- Bowser: Stone - based on Bowser's down special attack, Bowser Bomb; it may also be referencing the toughness of Bowser's shell.
- Lucario: Fighter - based on Lucario being a fighting-type Pokémon.
- Toon Link: Cutter - likely based on Link's boomerang attack.
- Sheik: Ninja - based on Sheik's ninja-like attributes.
- Ike: Sword - based on Ike being a swordfighter.
- King Dedede: Colourful Hammer, consisting in the Hammer ability, but also changing Kirby's color to yellow. The King Dedede amiibo from the Kirby series is also compatible, but it has a different effect (providing the Custom Hammer ability instead, consisting in the Hammer ability with King Dedede's hat and also changing Kirby's color to blue).
- Meta Knight: Colourful Sword - consisting in the Sword ability, but also changing Kirby's color to green. The Meta Knight amiibo from the Kirby series is also compatible, but it has a different effect (providing the Custom Sword ability instead, consisting in the Sword ability with Meta Knight's sword and mask and also changing Kirby's color to purple).
- Shulk: ESP - based on Shulk's premonition powers.
- Robin: Spark - based on Robin's neutral special move, Thunder.
- Lucina: Sword - based on Lucina being a swordfighter.
- Wario: Wheel - based on Wario driving a bike, and using it for his Side Special attack in the Super Smash Bros. series.
- Charizard: Fire - based on Charizard's fire powers.
- Ness: ESP - based on Ness's psychic powers.
- Greninja: Ninja - based on Greninja's ninja-like attributes.
- Jigglypuff: Mike - based on Jigglypuff's singing powers.
- Palutena: Mirror - based on Palutena's side special move, Reflect Barrier.
- Dark Pit: Archer - based on Dark Pit fighting with a bow.
- Zero Suit Samus: Whip - based on Zero Suit Samus's Plasma Whip.
- Ganondorf: Poison - likely based on Ganondorf's purple magic energy.
- Dr. Mario: Doctor - based on Dr. Mario being a doctor.
- Bowser Jr.: Bomb - likely based on Bowser Jr.'s Clown Cannon attack shooting cannon balls that fly in an arch, or on his Mechakoopa's attack.
- Olimar: Leaf - based on the Pikmin having leaves on their heads.
- Mii: Fighter, Sword or Spark - based on the Mii Brawler, Mii Swordfighter, and Mii Gunner respectively. When a Mii amiibo is scanned, regardless of which specific version it is, Kirby receives one of these three copy abilities at random.
- Mr. Game & Watch: Circus - likely based on his throw attack consisting in juggling the opponent; it may also reference Mr. Game & Watch having a variety of different attacks without a specific style.
- R.O.B.: Beam - based on R.O.B.'s neutral special move, Robo Beam.
- Duck Hunt: Archer - based on Duck Hunt's general theme of target shooting.
- Mewtwo: ESP - based on Mewtwo being a psychic-type Pokémon.
- Falco: Jet - based on Falco being a space pilot.
- Lucas: ESP - based on Lucas's psychic powers.
- Roy: Sword - based on Roy being a swordfighter.
Characters from the Mario series will produce the same effect if their Super Mario amiibo is scanned, however the power seems to be based specifically on their abilities from the Super Smash Bros. series.
Team Kirby Clash Deluxe[]
April 12, 2017
This game features compatibility with the Kirby, King Dedede and Meta Knight amiibo from the Super Smash Bros. series, that when scanned award 10 Fragments. This effect is different than scanning the Kirby series amiibo, which award 20 fragments, or scanning generic amiibo, which award 5 Fragments.
The same function is kept in the game's Nintendo Switch version, Super Kirby Clash.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[]
December 7, 2018
Kirby elements confirmed so far in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate are:
- 3 playable characters
- 1 Boss character (Marx)
- 6 stages
- 6 items
- 3 Assist Trophies
- 2 Mii fighter hats
- 59 spirits
- 43 music tracks
Playable characters[]
All three characters from the previous game return, but this time only Kirby is a starting character, while Meta Knight and King Dedede need to be unlocked by either having them join the party in Adventure Mode: World of Light, playing enough VS matches, or clearing Classic mode with specific characters (with the exception of Byleth, who must be purchased)..
Kirby[]
Being one of the eight starting characters from the original Super Smash Bros. Kirby returns as a starting character in Ultimate.
His appearance and moveset receives some minor changes, including his Dash attack being reverted to the Burning attack from Melee. His Inhale move is now also capable of inhaling projectiles and Kirby can then swallow them to heal a small amount of damage, or spit them out as a star; Kirby now strikes a pose after inhaling an opponent, and he can lose the copy ability when receiving significant damage, much like in the original games (see here for a list of the new or altered Kirby transformations in this game).
Additionally, Kirby gets a new Stone transformation based on a Chest from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
When winning a match outside of team battles, three separate Kirbys now appear performing Kirby's victory poses together, referencing the Kirby dances from his home series.
His new Boxing Ring stage name, “The Pink Demon”, is based on the Japanese translation of the previous game. This direct English translation has also been used in The Arena of Kirby: Planet Robobot.
Kirby's Classic Mode is called "Gourmet Clash", and the matches have Kirby and his opponent start at 35% damage, with food items appearing at the beginning of the match; all the opponents are characters who, like Kirby, are known for their large appetites (Pac-Man, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Wario, King K. Rool, and King Dedede); the final boss is Marx.
Meta Knight[]
Meta Knight returns as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but he's now an unlockable fighter; like all other characters he can be unlocked by either having him join the party in World of Light, playing enough VS matches or clearing Classic mode with specific characters, specifically being the 38th character unlocked playing VS Matches, and the fourth character in Link's Classic Mode unlock tree.
His moveset is unchanged for the most part, but he gets a new Final Smash replacing Galaxia Darkness, Darkness Illusion: Meta Knight lifts his sword, summoning a lightning bolt that creates a cross-shaped burst; any opponent hit by the lightning is launched in the air, where Meta Knight slashes them multiple times, finishing with a powerful blow. This move is original to Smash, but the multiple slashes resemble his Upper Calibur attack from Kirby Star Allies.
Meta Knight retains the same alternate outfits from the previous game, but his Purple and Grey outfits have added details to more closely resemble Galacta Knight and Dark Meta Knight respectively; specifically the Purple outfit now has a vertical slit in the center of his mask, yellow markings on the mask resembling Galacta Knight's horns, and a pink Galaxia matching Galacta Knight's lance, while the Grey outfit has a scar over the left eye, and Galaxia turns silver with a blue gem, matching Dark Meta Knight's version.
His Classic Mode is called "Two Sides of the Same Coin" and all fights are free-for-alls against a fighter and their dark counterpart (Link and Dark Link, Pit and Dark Pit, Captain Falcon and Blood Falcon, Lucas and Claus, Samus and Dark Samus) with Round 6 being against two Meta Knights in the Galacta Knight and Dark Meta Knight outfits respectively. The final boss is a fight against Master Hand and Crazy Hand.
King Dedede[]
King Dedede is now an unlockable character, being the 30th character unlocked playing VS Matches, and the fourth character in Donkey Kong's Classic Mode unlock tree.
His moveset received only minor changes, but he receives a new Final Smash replacing Dedede Burst, Dede-Rush: King Dedede swings his hammer in front of him, and the first opponent hit is transported on a caged ring; here Dedede dons his Masked Dedede mask, shoots missles out of his hammer at the opponent, and then performs a powerful Hammer Swing at them, sending them flying. The location as well as Dedede's attacks are based on the fight against Masked Dedede from Kirby Super Star Ultra.
Additionally, King Dedede's Inhale move is now capable of inhaling projectiles and then spit them back out.
His new Boxing Ring state name, “Self-Made King”, is a reference to Kirby Star Allies in-game description for him during “Guest Star ???? Star Allies Go!”.
King Dedede's Classic Mode is called "Royal Rumble", and all his opponents are characters with royal titles. The final boss is Master Hand.
Marx[]
The final boss from the Milky Way Wishes subgame of Kirby Super Star appears as a boss in Adventure Mode: World of Light, as well as at the end of Classic Mode when playing as Kirby, Rosalina & Luma, or Inkling, while being the third boss for Sephiroth.
He initially appears in his base form, and then transforms in his boss form as the fight begins. Many of his attacks resemble attacks from his appearance in Kirby Super Star, including the Shooter Cutter, Marx Laser, Ice Ball, Seed Attack, Shadow Uppercut and Black Hole moves. He also has three original moves: one where he shoots black orbs out of his eyeballs, one where he retracts his wings and grows vein-like branching appendages, and one where he grows large compound eyes and shoots laser beams in multiple directions.
Stages[]
All the Kirby stages from previous games return and are available from the start. To distinguish the original Super Smash Bros. stage from the 3DS stage, the latter has been renamed Dream Land GB. The available stages are therefore: Dream Land, Green Greens, Fountain of Dreams, Halberd, Dream Land GB, and The Great Cave Offensive.
All stages return unchanged, save for graphical enhancements, but the alternate black and white looks for Dream Land GB is no longer present.
This game added the option to turn off Stage Hazards, which removes some of the more unpredictable elements from the stages, specifically preventing Whispy Woods from blowing wind and the Halberd Combo Cannon from shooting, removing falling blocks from Green Greens, removing mine carts and treasure chests from The Great Cave Offensive, and making all platforms in Fountain of Dreams stationary.
Items[]
All five items from the previous game return in Ultimate, but there also is a new item: Bomber.
All returning items are basically unchanged, but each character now has an exclusive facial animation when using the Superspicy Curry, and they no longer run constantly, allowing them to correctly perform tilt attacks.
Bomber[]
The recurring enemy from the Kirby series appears as a new item in Ultimate. After spawning it walks around the stage and it can be picked up and detonated by fighters, creating a large explosion that damages opponents. If left on its own it can fall off ledges and explode upon impact with the ground, similar to its behavior in Kirby games.
While inhaling it in the original series grants Kirby the Crash ability, in this game it simply causes him damage like any other explosive item.
Assist Trophies[]
Both Knuckle Joe and Nightmare return basically unchanged from the previous game as Assist Trophies, but there also is a new one:
Chef Kawasaki[]
A mid-boss from Kirby Super Star, Chef Kawasaki appears as an Assist Trophy in Ultimate. When summoned he attacks by throwing plates at opponents and can also grab them with a ladle to cook them, just like he does in his original appearance, but instead of cooking them in a frying pan, he puts them in a pot, which causes damage and then launches them and creates food, similar to Kirby's Cook Kirby Final Smash from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. This references the Cook Kirby ability being obtained by inhaling Chef Kawasaki in the original game.
Mii hats[]
The Meta Knight Mask for Mii Fighters returns from the previous game, but there now also is the Marx Hat, based on the hat worn by the boss the Milky Way Wishes subgame of Kirby Super Star, which also appears as a boss in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate itself.
Each one of these headgear items is unlockable as a random reward or by purchasing it from the in-game shop.
Spirits[]
The game features 59 spirits from the Kirby series. Most of them are unlockable in Spirits mode, either in Adventure Mode or the Spirits Board, where the player must win in a fight with specific conditions, simulating a fight against the spirit's character.
Alternative unlock criteria are indicated when available.
Most spirits can also be obtained as random rewards or by purchasing them from the in-game shop; this criterion is omitted in the list.
Each spirit is usually represented by artwork from their original game, but the three fighter spirits also have alternate artwork from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate itself.
The game indicates each spirit's sub-series of origin; we also indicate the specific game that originated the artwork when necessary.

Music tracks[]
The game features 38 Kirby tracks, including 26 tracks returning from previous games, and 12 new ones (listed in bold). Most stage tracks from previous games return, the only exception being "Checker Knights" from Brawl, although the tracks "Green Greens", "Castle Lololo", "Float Islands", "Bubbly Clouds", and "Mt. Dedede" from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS are now fused into one medley (the singular tracks are still present in the game, and are sometimes used in Spirit battles, but they're unavailable in the Sound Test).
32 of these tracks are available from the start, while 6 tracks need to be unlocked by either buying them from the in-game shop or receiving them as random rewards.
Unlike previous games, this time each track can be chosen to play on any Kirby stage. Update to Ver. 8.1.0 on August 4, 2020 allowed any of these tracks to be played on Battlefield, Small Battlefield, Big Battlefield, and Final Destination stages.
The two victory themes for Kirby characters also return unchanged from the previous game, but they're not available in the Sound Test and are therefore not listed here.
Base tracks:
- Geen Geens (Melee): An orchestration of the Green Greens stage music from Kirby's Dream Land, returning from Melee, Brawl, and for Wii U.
- Green Greens (for 3DS / Wii U): second orchestral remix of the Green Greens stage music from Kirby's Dream Land, returning from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, where it was titled "Green Greens Ver. 2".
- Kirby Retro Medley: medley of songs taken directly from Kirby's Dream Land, including "Green Greens", "Castle Lololo", "Float Islands", "Bubbly Clouds" and "Mt. Dedede". While considered a new track, it actually consists in the five tracks from the Dream Land stage of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS played back to back. When played on the Dream Land GB stage, the five tracks are actually separate, and they each play in the respective sections of the stage.
- King Dedede's Theme (Brawl): A remix of the theme played in most Kirby games during the fight against King Dedede, returning from Brawl and for Wii U.
- King Dedede's Theme (for 3DS / Wii U): a second remix of the theme played in most Kirby games during the fight against King Dedede, returning from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, where it was titled "King Dedede's Theme Ver. 2".
- Staff Credits - Kirby's Dream Land: remix of the staff credits themes from both Kirby's Dream Land and Kirby Super Star. It also includes the Sparkling Star, 1-Up, and Warp Star sound effects.
- Ice Cream Island: A medely of tracks from Kirby's Adventures, returning from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U.
- Butter Building (Brawl): A techno-styled remix of the music from castle and tower themed levels in Kirby's Adventure, first heard in World 3: Butter Building, returning from Brawl and for Wii U.
- Butter Building (for 3DS / Wii U): A second remix of the music from castle and tower themed levels in Kirby's Adventure, returning from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, where it was titled "Butter Building Ver. 2".
- Gourmet Race (Brawl): A metal-based remix of the Gourmet Race theme from Kirby Super Star, returning from Brawl and for Wii U.
- Gourmet Race (64): A fast-paced remix of the "Gourmet Race" Theme from Kirby Super Star, returning from the original Super Smash Bros., Melee, and for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, where it was titled "Dream Land" after the stage.
- Gourmet Race (Melee): An orchestrated, atmospheric version of "Gourmet Race" from Kirby Super Star, returning from Melee, Brawl, and for Wii U, where it was titled "Fountain of Dreams" after the stage.
- The Great Cave Offensive: A medley of music from the Kirby Super Star sub-game "The Great Cave Offensive" of the "Crystal Field Area" (a remix of the iconic "Green Greens" theme) and "Sub-Tree Area", returning from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

- 02 Battle: A remix of the music that plays in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards during the fight against the game's final boss, 0², returning from Brawl and for Wii U.
- Celestial Valley: the theme from the Celestial Valley course of Kirby Air Ride, taken directly from the game and returning from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

Other references[]
Adventure Mode: World of Light features an area based on the Gourmet Race from Kirby Super Star. The player can walk down various paths to collect food, choosing which direction to go at every intersection, but unable to go back. At the end of the track is a podium, and if the player collected between 3 and 6 pieces of food the Waddle Dee spirit appears on the third place, if the player collected between 7 and 10 pieces of food the Chef Kawasaki spirit appears on the second place, and if the player collected 11 pieces of food (the maximum amount available), King Dedede appears on the first place.
Additionally the Mysterious Dimension in World of Light features various questions regarding spirit characters in the game, and the player must choose the right one in order to progress. One of these questions is "Who among these spirits can Kirby not inhale?" and the available spirits are Whispy Woods, Mr. Frosty, Scarfy, Bugzzy, and Waddle Doo. This is the only question in the game with multiple right answers, as both Whispy Woods and Scarfy can't be inhaled by Kirby; each respective answer leads down a different path.
