Mario makes a cameo flying on a plane, followed by Lemmy Koopa, one of the Koopalings from Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World, riding a missile.
Shooting Lemmy awards bonus points, while shooting Mario deals a penality.

Super Scope
The Devo Gun weapon in the Super Mario Bros. movie is designed very similarly to the Super Scope.
It's used to shoot a de-evolving ray, capable of turning humans into monkeys and Dinohattan inhabitants into dinosaurs (in most cases Goombas).
The Devo Gun toy by Ertl is thus undirectly based on the Super Scope.

The Sniper Bill enemy in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, met in Bowser's Castle, attack using the Super Scope. This is ironic since the enemy itself is a bullet.
