Crazy Kong Cover

The cover for the Commodore 64 version.

Crazy Kong was an officially-licensed clone of Donkey Kong, developed by Falcon under license from Nintendo and released for Arcade in 1981. It was later also ported to Commondore 64, ZX Spectrum, and received a handheld LCD version as well as a sequel titled Crazy Kong Jr.(taking the name from Donkey Kong Jr.)

Although the terms of the contract limited manufacturing and distribution of Crazy Kong to Japan, Falcon broke the agreement by exporting the game to the U.S. In response, Nintendo terminated the contract and sued Elcon, an arcade hardware distributor that sold Crazy Kong boards. The case went to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, which ruled in favor of Nintendo.Nintendo of America, Inc. v. Elcon Industries, Inc. (October 4, 1982).
