This page explains in detail the interactions between the Darkstalkers series and the Red Earth series.
Red Earth[]
November 21, 1996
A piece of concept art created for Red Earth shows the members of the combat unit the character Mai-Ling belongs to, "Feng Wu" (Wind Dance in Chinese). In this art piece the members are revealed to be four Capcom characters, all wearing Mai-Ling's uniform: Chun-Li from Street Fighter, Hsien-ko from Darkstalkers, Tong Pooh from Strider and June Lin Milliam from Star Gladiator. Hsien-ko stands at the center of the art piece fully displaying her large metal claws.
The concept art was published on the All About WAR-ZARD artbook. It is worth noting this is not an intended canonical tie between these series, with the art being a joke about other Capcom Chinese girls being the members of Mai-Ling's group.
Darkstalkers/Red Earth: Maleficarum[]
December 10, 1997
Darkstalkers/Red Earth: Maleficarum is a single volume manga written and drawn by Mami Itou, compiling several comic chapters he authored from both Darkstalkers and Red Earth. The manga is split into 9 numbered chapters, 5 for Darkstalkers and 4 for Red Earth. The first two Darkstalkers chapters are an adaptation of the story in Vampire Savior featuring Morrigan and Demitri, while the last three chapters are self-contained stories focused on Donovan Baine and Jon Talbain. The four Red Earth chapters are a compressed adaptation of the game's plot primarily following Leo and Tessa.
Although compiled on the same book, the two stories are completely separate and independent of each other, with no in-universe links tying them together.
