This page explains in detail the interactions between the Breath of Fire series and the Ghosts 'n Goblins series.

Breath of Fire
Ghosts 'n Goblins
There's a minor reference to the Ghosts 'n Goblins main character Arthur in the original Breath of Fire. Inside most houses in the game, the player can find a little portrait of Arthur hung on one of the walls, looking at the side in a profile shot.
Breath of Fire II[]
December 2, 1994
Breath of Fire
Ghosts 'n Goblins
The late-game enemy Gargoyle in Breath of Fire II strongly resembles the infamous Red Arremer enemy from the Ghosts 'n Goblins series. The enemy's appearance is almost entirely accurate to a Red Arremer, being an humanoid red-skinned demon with large black wings and fangs. The most notably difference, however, is that the Gargoyle features bird-like talons for feet whereas the Red Arremer has always sported regular talons that match his red body. The Gargoyle enemy also appears to have a yellow spike, possibly hair, standing up on its head, another element not featured in Red Arremers.
